And there they go, letting their imagination take flight. She sees an endless amount of open space around her. Her sister by her side. Are the possibilities not endless? She feels the slight crispy air and the excitement flourishes! Round and round they go, chasing each other from one tree to the next. Who can climb it the fastest? Who can run the furthest. Has it now become a race?
The amazing thing about children is that they have the ability to live in the now. They are hardly worried about what is coming tomorrow or what lies ahead. The imagination that these two little girls have is so inspiring. Everything is at their finger tips. Nothing is out of reach. They are full of life and possibilities. Children are who they are and they are real and raw. They don’t waste time or energy trying to be something or someone else.
So often, ‘family pictures’ are dreaded. Children are expected to, “hold still…” “sit up straight…” and smile normal.” (…I’m guilty of expecting this from my own little boy). And while, these photos have their purpose (a nice large canvas above the mantle, or the family christmas card) these photos are not the ones that immediately make me burst into laughter, full of joy because of the memories attached.
Without a doubt, the best family session that I have, are the ones filled with silliness, laughter, running around, dancing, wiggling, hugs, kisses and much more.
Photos tell a story about who you are as a family not just what you look like. I want to hang memories. I want to preserve those fleeting moments. Thing you can’t prepare for, reenact, or time. These are things that make you’re family unique.
I’m so glad I got to interact with the Tomlinsons last week! They are such a beautiful family full of such light and joy! Leyla and Nora, their two little girls, brought so much laughter and personality with them that was so apparent in their photos and I couldn’t have hoped for anything better!
