I don’t normally shoot homecomings. They are often delayed and hard to plan for because they don’t end up being when they were intended. And they are especially hard to plan around when you have kids! They change the dates and times quite often and I realize that a lot of it is for security reasons, the military has a tendency to do that haha, but this homecoming is one that I wouldn’t miss for anything! Even 38 weeks pregnant and in the middle of the night, it was beyond worth it to support a friend on one of the best days ever for her and her family!
My friend Mackenzie said goodbye to her husband a couple months before I had to say goodbye to mine and had to wait even longer to get him back. During that time, she moved back home for a little bit to save money, get a little help from home and likely, help pass the time a little faster/easier.
When you make military friendships, you typically have to make them fast and strong in the beginning because you don’t ever know how much time you will have with them before either you or they have to move. The military is so transient that way.
Well, Mackenzie was one of the first friends I had here and I was practically heart broken to have her leaving for almost a year while her husband was deployed. However, the time passed and things moved on, and before I knew it, she was on her way back and we were both husbandless for a time! We caught back up and practically picked up right where we left off. We kept each other company almost daily and provided one another (and our kids) a buddy to get through the days!
I am beyond grateful for the friend Mackenzie is and has been to me and I’m SO happy that she gets to have Matt home and that her kids get to have their daddy back! Congratulations you guys!
